Praying Hands Dirty Fingernails
As I announced at the Church Conference this year, the title of chapter five from Bishop Schnase’s book, Remember the Future: Praying for the Church and Change, is the visionary theme of outreach I would like for Wesley United Methodist Church, Sulphur Springs, to use for 2013. I could find no better expressions to describe the work and faith of the people of Wesley. People here are eager to fold their hands in prayer and seek the living Christ for guidance and support and at the same time dig their hands into whatever work and service that Christ needs done. This is also the visual symbol that many in our neighborhood can relate to because they too have dirty, praying hands.

Praying Hands Dirty Fingernails
The "Rest of the Story"
In Wesley’s model of service, acts of piety are the practices that help us grow in grace. Such practices as prayer, worship, receiving the sacraments, and fasting. Most everyone prays, and there is no wrong prayer. Any time we go to God and tell God what is on our mind God is happy to hear. When my children, now grandchildren come to me and crawl in my lap and talk with me I am so thrilled. Sometimes they say things that amaze me.
