On Going Mission Emphasis
Wesley’s ongoing mission emphasis is Backpack Buddies. Many of you may not realize that many students right here in Hopkins County come from very low income families, and that the only meals they get on a daily basis are the ones that they receive at school for free or at a reduced cost. Therefore, they may have little or nothing to eat on the weekend while they are away from school.
The Backpack Buddies will provide a bag of easy to fix food items to these students each Friday that they can slip into their backpack and take home so they will have food for the weekend. The cost of each bag of food is about $3, so for $12 a month, you can feed a child who might otherwise go without. The Backpack display in Wesley Hall has backpack magnets that you can take to represent the child that you commit to adopting for the school year, and that will remind you to write a check for your support each month.
We are excited to report that we are able to send Backpack Buddies for all 150 children at Austin Elementary who are on the free/reduced lunch program. If you would like to help set up or fill bags on Wednesday night, please call the church office. (903) 885-3383.
